Two Latin American trade union confederations joined TUAC on the 16th December. The Confederación de Trabajadores Rerum Novarum (CTRN) of Costa Rica and the Central Autónoma de Trabajadores del Perú (CATP) became official TUAC affiliates at the 155th Plenary Session.

These new affiliations reflect TUAC’s commitment to ensuring the OECD’s engagement with the Latin American labour movement. With Costa Rica becoming the organisation’s newest member state in 2021, and Peru now an accession country to the OECD, it is vital that workers’ representatives in these countries are heard at OECD level. The CTRN has joined TUAC as a full affiliate member, and the CATP as an associate member.

Both CTRN and CATP spoke at TUAC’s recent side-event at the OECD’s Ministerial Summit on Social Inclusion, highlighting the crucial importance of ensuring that Latin American workers’ rights remain strictly on the agenda as more of their states join or become accession countries to the OECD.

The addition of CTRN and CATP significantly strengthens TUAC's representation of workers in Latin America. These affiliations bring critical perspectives from regions with unique economic challenges, enabling us to more comprehensively advocate for workers' interests in OECD policy discussions,

— Veronica Nilsson, TUAC General Secretary

Through these new partnerships, TUAC will continue bringing trade union perspectives to OECD policy debates, ensuring Latin American workers’ voices help shape discussions affecting their region.

The strength of TUAC's work lies in combining our policy expertise with the real-world experience of our affiliates. CTRN and CATP's understanding of their national contexts will be crucial as we work to ensure OECD policies better reflect workers' needs,

— Veronica Nilsson, TUAC General Secretary
