Joint Statement NCPs

TUAC, issued a joint statement with Business at OECD (BIAC) and OECD Watch, urging governments and the OECD to take action to ensure the effectiveness of National Contact Points (NCPs) that were set up to help remediate business conduct under OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct.

The statement calls for the OECD Investment Committee and the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct to support efforts to improve NCP effectiveness, emphasising the importance of these bodies recommending improvements to NCPs that fail to fulfill the criteria for effectiveness.

It also urges the OECD Ministerial Council to recognise the role of the OECD Guidelines in promoting sustainable development and stressed the need for well-functioning NCPs to ensure adherence to the Guidelines.

With this statement, business agrees to encourage companies involved in complaints to participate in the NCP process in good faith to resolve issues in a timely manner.

Furthermore, the statement calls for NCPs to be adequately funded and staffed to fulfil their mandate effectively.
