Stakeholders United in Support for Strong OECD Chair on Responsible Business Conduct

02 March 2018

Ahead of the meeting of the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct, being held 5-6 March, TUAC, BIAC and OECD Watch issued a joint statement calling for the new Chair to be a strong, committed leader,  capable of winning the confidence of all the institutional stakeholders. The current Chair, Roel Nieuwenkamp, will step down in June 2018 after six years at the helm of the Working Party.
Joint Statement
Chair of the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct

BIAC, TUAC and OECD Watch, representing the views of the three institutional stakeholders in the OECD discussions on the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, wish to highlight the importance of balanced and effective implementation of the MNE Guidelines, an effectively functioning NCP system and a global level playing field.

BIAC, TUAC and OECD Watch appreciate the important work of the Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct and thank its Chair, Roel Nieuwenkamp, for his excellent work, energy, commitment and the balanced way he addressed the interests of the three institutional stakeholders during his tenure as Chair. As the Working Party is currently reflecting on the procedure for the designation of a new Chair, BIAC, TUAC and OECD Watch would like to underscore the fundamental importance of this position, which requires extensive experience, strong commitment and leadership, as well as impartiality and the ability to build trust and confidence vis-à-vis the institutional stakeholders. We call upon the Working Party to give due attention to these considerations.
